Depending on your creativity, skills, and time, the limits to what you can do to a Jon boat are almost endless depending on your imagination. What I decided to do was gather as many ideas for Jon boat mods as I could from looking at forums, Pinterest, YouTube, and Facebook and compile them into this mega guide of Jon boat modifications, plans, ideas, photos, and videos.

Below are some of the most ingenious deck mods I have seen online. This guy will be fishing in style no doubt, with everything he needs in handy reach of the seat. With a raised deck, rod holders, and pedestal swivel seats, this guy is going to make some serious catches during the fishing season.

If you want to know what seats were used in this Jon boat modification project, click here for my guide to Jon boat seating.

This Tracker is just stunning, and can handle 2 people with ease. If you go any smaller with a raised deck, then it could become unstable, but I have it on good authority that this one handles just perfectly. Once that carpet goes down this is going to be one hell of a modification.

Just look at it! Check out this example of a 12ft Jon boat deck modification. The deck is split into 3 parts, with ample room for your feet with swivel chairs and rod storage to the sides. The seat on this one looks moror high up, but you have to assume diy jon boat trolling motor mount white the owner made sure the boat was stable before he got to work.

This looks extremely stable, and has room for 2 to fish, despite the small deck size available. You can pick up cheap carpeting for a project like this from most hardware stores. The stability of this fishing set-up looks a bit mouny to my liking, as the seats are set a little lower on the deck.

Image from www. This guy likes straight lines and flat surfaces. You could probably flip this Jon upside down and it would still float, given how the top resembles a flat-bottom well. Speaking dky bass fishing, how about some more examples of Jon boat mods for bass fishing where the the set-ups have been completely customised to help you get the best catch. In this example, the guy added spray-in liner he used 2 gallonsrod T bars, hangers to hold the jig boxes, vertical rod holders using PVC piping, then space for his fish finder.

But diy jon boat trolling motor mount white cares? Diy jon boat trolling motor mount white upshot is, it works, and he catches every time he goes bass fishing.

Perhaps the grass carpeting could work for duck hunting camouflage too! What I whhite about this design is the moment I saw it, my first thought was how great that cooler could be for beer. At the very least, you want a green paint job when doing any form of Jon mktor duck hunting modifications. Keep scrolling for some better examples. PS: You might also be interested in my recent article that explains how to paint an aluminum boat. And here it is!

An amazing modification where the camo shades and styling have been taken to the next level. Check out the camo grip flooring, camo deck mods, raised seating and.

I love it, I really love it. This is absolute class. You can just imagine how you could kill the motor and sit in wait amongst the reeds in this awesome little Jon. If you do decide to go down the camo route for duck hunting, you should also plan to get a trollingg blind in place as part of your modification project. The video below shows you just how you can do that on a 12 foot Jon boat. But what about the most essential part of the modification plan, the camo?

Go take a look at the great ideas for deck and storage modifications. Can you imagine how much it will have increased xiy value since then? The owner could keep doing projects like this and flip the boats on Craigslist makes a nice little side earner for sure! In this video example, you can see how a guy added diy jon boat trolling motor mount white trolling motor, front seat, livewell and cooler, livewell pump, rear seat, seat swivel, bilge pump, and rod holders.

The result is a great set-up for bass fishing in creeks, small lakes, and bays as long as there are no waves! Here we see carpet seats, rear casting deck, cooler, fishing rod holders, and also bungee cord mounts so all the gear can be stripped.

He also made mounts for a second hand fish finder, with additional storage space added under the rear casting deck space.

Here are some foot Jon boat modifications that you can. It includes some photos which give you a good idea on how to plan your own DIY project, some videos with step by step guides, and some of the best examples I have found online for 12ft Jon boat modifications. This is one of the best YouTube videos I have found that focus purely on modifying a 12 foot Jon boat. In this short 5 and half minute video you see the guy making reinforced storage compartments and a live well space, applying carpeting to a homemade plywood deck, mounting a trolling motor, and placing seating in.

In this stunning video you can see the modifications and customisations made to a Tracker Jon boat. Apparently it took a few months, as each part was purchased or made bit by bit.

It looks amazing at the end of the video reel. One of the most popular modification projects is a conversion from a Jon to a bass boat. In this 21 minute video you see just how you can do it. In this YouTube video the guy has put together a slide show of all the mods mootr has made to his footer.

This 14 foot Tracker was bought from new. At nearly 17 minutes, it gives you a great idea on what is possible with a Jon of this size. I believe that the best custom projects are where you modify an old and un-loved Jon into something new and fresh. Everything was ripped out with a new deck being built from plywood, with outdoor carpeting added.

It even had a CD player fitted, a lick or paint, and it was good to go. I started out with just a 14 ft. Jon boat that was made in As you can see, there is still some work to go, but it shows what you can achieve with even the oldest of boats that you can pick up used for cheap. He decided to take his boat and convert it into an electric-powered version. The boat in this video was trollign 14ft Tracker Topper.

I love it! Because of that, you will see a huge range of Jon diy jon boat trolling motor mount white seat mods where guys rip out the old and install diy jon boat trolling motor mount white own set-up. Bowt you want a bench, a pedestal, or a swivel, here are some modifications to seating that could work for you.

All of the new seats in this guide you can see reviewed and rated in my guide to the best Jon boat seats. If you diy jon boat trolling motor mount white this Crestliner below, you boah not even want to make a seat mod. This stern seat could be just what you are looking. In this DIY project, round holes were cut into the benches, then, tapped and threaded. Plates were installed to mount the swivel seats onto.

You can see more photos from this custom seat project plus more ideas in my guide to seat mount ideas. The mount is very sturdy, and you can replicate it yourself using the product review found in my mount guide. In diy jon boat trolling motor mount white idea, see how the guys has installed a pedestal seat on his Jon boat to get a really high fishing and vantage point.

You can buy clamping seat systems and fit them quite easily to your boat see prices. When doing any modification project, you need to be aware of motlr limits and stability.

There are diy jon boat trolling motor mount white in which you can improve the stability of your Jon, but there will be a weight limit that you should not exceed.

The smaller your Jon, the troolling this tolling can be. Now rrolling should have an idea on what you want to achieve, look for some plans online, or follow some of the great videos on YouTube. And since it has a thrust of 55 pounds, so it only uses one 12v battery, which does not come with the motor. On a single charge, you can get more than 8 hours of runtime if you use a deep cycle battery. You may get more runtime on a lithium-ion battery, but Newport Vessels have indicated that you should not use this battery with any of their motors.

We're excited to announce we are starting a Brand Ambassador Team and would like to officially welcome ripnlips William Pfingst to the Newport Vessels family! Follow us for more yakfishing content!

So if you are looking for a quality motor that is not going to dent your pocket, then consider getting this NV- Series 55lb motor. Even for a boat owner who has never installed a motor before, they are going to find this one relatively easy to attach to their boat. Since it a small transom motor, you can install it in a floating boat, small dinghy, kayak, or canoe. So this motor needs only one 12 volt battery to power and run your Jon boat.

The motor does not come with the battery, you would have to buy it separately. You can decide whether to use a lithium-ion or deep cycle battery.

To operate the motor, there are two handles. One is a spring-loaded handle that is builtin into the head of the motor, which you can release at the push of a button.

The other is a telescopic handle and is much longer than the other handle. So you have the option of using whichever handle you want. And if one is not working well, at least you have a backup. This motor does not have a variable speed feature that many trolling motors have on their handles. Instead, there are two switches. One is for speed and the other is forwarding and reversing. The motor has only two speeds, so to increase and decrease the speed, you just need to push the button up and down.

So the fact that it does not have a variable speed feature, that could deter some boat owners from buying the motor. Another problem is that it does not have a battery power indicator. But the trade-off is that it is a very affordable motor that is easy to install and operate. This motor would be the best choice. So ensure that the total weight and carrying capacity of your Jon boat do not exceed that weight.

This is a saltwater motor. We do recommend that you wash it down with fresh water when you remove it from saltwater. By doing this, you are going to extend the lifespan of the motor. The unit comes with a rechargeable remote control that allows you to operate the cruise control feature.

So you can steer your boat in whatever direction you want using the remote control. The cruise control ensures that the boat runs at your desired speed. But if you are dealing with rough currents or strong winds, you need to manually keep your boat on course every now and then. The pedal has a rubber covering to protect the components inside from damage, dirt, and dust. The rubber covering also makes the foot pedal waterproof.

The buttons on the pedal are firm. So even if you accidentally kick a button with your shoes, nothing is going to happen as you need your foot to firmly press on the button for it to work. There is a digital display on the foot pedal that displays different speed levels. So you can know what speed you are moving at. And that is pretty cool. At the back of the unit, there is a battery power indicator to help you know when your battery is full or low.

This is a great feature to have on a trolling motor because you can estimate the hours you can be on the water. It can also help you know the best battery to use. Some batteries run longer on a single charge. So as you continue using the motor, you can test different batteries, to know which one has a longer runtime on a single Diy Jon Boat Motor Works charge. Like other transom motors, this one has an adjustable inch steel shaft.

So it is rust-resistant. The propeller has 3-blades, which is great because you can cut through dense vegetation more easily than you would with a 2-blade propeller. Lastly, the unit is pretty inexpensive , but it does not come with the mounting equipment.

But you can buy one with the mounting equipment, which still is not going to cost you much. The MotorGuide Xi5 bow mount trolling motor is great for boat owners who prefer saltwater motors over freshwater motors. But then again, it is designed to run boats that weigh pounds when fully loaded. For a boat that weighs more than that, you need to get the MotorGuide pound thrust motor.

This one is an pound thrust motor and it uses a 12v battery with a maximum draw of 52amps. The motor does not come with the battery.

The boat is controlled using a wireless foot pedal. You can operate the pedal from anywhere on the boat. And it is shock resistant. And since the motor has variable speed , you can use the pedal to accelerate and slow down. You can dial it to whatever speed you want with ease. If you get tired of using the foot pedal, the motor has a pinpoint GPS system that is controlled using a remote control.

So you can use the remote control to steer your boat. It is waterproof, shock-resistant, lightweight, and easy to use. The pinpoint GPS system keeps your boat locked onto a certain position. The system also has other functions which include a Jog function, which repositions your boat 5 Small Jon Boat With Trolling Motor Online feet in whatever direction you want.

There is a cruise control function to help keep your boat at the speed you want. And there is a heading function that ensures you stay on course. The GPS system also has a function for recording and saving your routes. You can save up to 8 routes and replay them when you need to go back to a particular place. So all in all, this motor comes with some great features that can make your fishing adventures easy and fun.

And guess what? It comes with a lifetime warranty. Choosing a trolling motor for a Jon boat let alone any other boat is not an easy task. A lot goes into finding a suitable motor system for your boat size and fishing style.

So let us at some factors that you need to take into consideration when shopping for a trolling motor. The two common types of mounting systems are bow mounts and transom mounts.

Bow mounts are ideal for boats that are large and heavy, while transom mounts are ideal for boats that are small and light. So when deciding what mount system to buy, take into consideration the size and weight of your Jon boat.

It is also important to mention that most trolling motors do not come with the mounting equipment. The bigger the boat, the more thrust it requires. Again like the mounting system, the weight and size of your boat determine how much thrust it requires.

The general rule is to get the weight of your boat when it is fully loaded and divide it by Then multiply the result by 2. The result is going to be the thrust your boat needs in pounds. The weight of your boat is another important factor because it determines what style and size trolling motor to buy. For boats that weigh more than pounds , the best mounts are bow mounts. This is because to start and run a boat that weighs more than that, you need plenty of thrust.

Into the unknown. Took the boat out in the dense fog the other morning. Forced me to focus more on my electronics and mapping which was a good opportunity.

Transom mounted trolling motors can be used for low speed operation or as auxiliary power. On smaller vessels the transom mounted trolling motor is usually operated manually via a tiller. On larger boats it can be operated via tiller, remote control or foot pedal.

Most modern trolling motors include the ability to raise or lower the motor within its mount, to accommodate necessary shaft length, and many include a spring-loaded mount that will swing the motor out of way should it strike an underwater obstruction. Regardless of where your trolling motor is mounted you will want to pay close attention to how it is adjusted.

Most lower priced models will rely on a simple pull rope to release the pin when deploying or stowing. If you rely on a traditional outboard for running and only use the trolling motor when fishing, you will be raising and lowering the motor a lot.

When this is the case the pull rope can be difficult and back breaking. Prop Style Unlike gas powered outboard, which offer a wide range of prop styles and sizes, trolling motors all come with the same basic design.

Some manufacturers will, however, provide weedless models that are less prone to become hung up in thicker vegetation. The main difference in props will involve the blade, specifically whether there are 2 blades or 3. Dual blade models will provide less forward thrust but are more conservative when it comes to power consumption.

Three blade models are faster, provide additional thrust and more suitable for larger motors. They will of course use more power. Unfortunately, you generally do not get a choose when it comes to number of blades as the props are not interchangeable. When it comes to speed control there are generally two options digital variable or single speed.

While some smaller or less expensive models may come equipped with single speed controls the industry standard has become digital variable control. Even some of the motors reviewed that are designed for smaller jon boats include this feature.

In terms of the benefits digital variable speed controls offer it comes down to improves performance. You gain more control, more efficiency and longer battery life. You give up nothing. Aside form the basic features there are several upgrades that you will want to consider. Although many of these accessories or upgrades come at an additional cost most of the manufacturers have offered the ability to buy a base model motor and add the upgrades later, allowing you to spread the cost out over more than one purchase or even several season.

Top features include Bluetooth connection, which can often allow the user to download a smartphone app that permits remote control and monitoring of motor operation, battery level and even position. GPS, especially when combined with apps such as Diy Jon Boat Trolling Motor Mount Ro i-pilot, allows for greater ease of use and reduces the need for constant position adjustment. If there is a need to adjust position you will find foot pedals and remote controls an excellent advantage over hand or tiller controls.

Finally, you will want to consider construction materials. A flexible shaft will reduce impact damage, a big concern when operating in stump filled areas. Corrosion resistant materials including aluminum, stainless steel and fiberglass composites will keep wear and tear to a minimum no matter where you operate but are a must if used in saltwater.

When shopping for a trolling motor you will find the market is always welcoming a new comer, especially those that offer modest motors equipped with the latest in technology.

However, there are only three main competitors two long term leaders and a new upstart offering some of the most advanced, yet economical models available. Minn Kota inventors of the first gear driven electric motor Minn Kota is the undisputed leader when it comes to trolling motors, having been in business since the mids.

Today they offer a wide range of trolling motors in a variety of sizes, with some of the most advances upgrades available and a history of quality.

MotorGuide although they have been around since the s, MotorGuide was long considered the capable but junior leader of the trolling motor industry. They were the first to develop a foot pedal control and continue to be a leader in innovation.

Newport Vessels this is the new kid on the block, but they are quickly making a name for themselves. Founded in they have quickly built a reputation for quality, economic products and strive keep offering high quality motors at a reduced cost.

They have also made a name for themselves by producing many motors capable of use in either fresh or saltwater, a feature even lower end models share. As with most accessories it is important to select the correct size for the boat you will be using it on. In the case of trolling motors even a smaller trolling motor will move a larger than expected jon boat, as they are generally lighter in weight than other designs of the same length.

However, it is still recommended that you avoid underpowering your boat as this can result in increased wear and tear as well as reduced life of the motor. On the other hand, adding a larger than needed trolling motor is unlikely to result in unsurmountable problems. Unlike gasoline motors the increased size is unlikely to include additional unsafe motor weight, although it would be an unnecessary investment. Unless stated otherwise by the manufacturer the industry standard is 5lbs of thrust for every lbs gross weight.

That being said it is always better to error on the side of more power, especially if you may someday upgrade to a larger boat- at least you can transfer the trolling motor. Plus, the extra power will come in handy should you encounter heavy weed cover.

The biggest concern is weight. Because the boat is so small, and weight limits more easily reached, every pound in motor or battery is one less pound of gear you can carry. Motorguide X3 45FW Digital Hand Control if you are serious about wanting a trolling motor, but looking for value, then you need to seriously consider the X3.

MotorGuide is one of the three big trolling motor manufacturers, so even though you are buying a budget priced model there is no concern over quality.

The X3 includes many features high level models can only dream of including superior steering, a large diameter corrosion resistant shaft and excellent impact protection. The aircraft-grade, extruded aluminum mounting bracket provides tough, easy to control even at maximum thrust.

For additional information, availability and current pricing click here Bass Pro Shops. Minn Kota Endura C2 55 Trolling Motor click for additional information, availability and current pricing from Amazon this motor is from another leader in the trolling motor industry and is just what the small jon boat owner is looking for. The power prop provides the extra strength needed to escape weeds that will keep other motors stalled.

The biggest advantage is how quiet it is to operate. Thanks to the weedless wedge prop you will feel as if you are in stealth mode as you sneak up on the big trophies that await. This means that you will need more thrust, so do not try to recycle the smaller, less powerful trolling motor you had on your kayak, canoe or even shorter jon boat.

Even though you may have a front deck most boats of this size will not accommodate fishing from that deck, so motors will generally still be mounted at the transom.

It is also less likely you will need to worry about remote control or foot pedal control as the operator will also be seated near the transom. While it does not offer features such as remote control, sonar or autopilot it does offer what is most important- dependable, rock-solid performance.

Rated for use on boats up to 17ft in length the 55 lbs of thrust will be more than enough to move your 14ft. The heavy-duty spring protected shaft housing, illuminated directional indicator and variable speed motor will get you there and back again season after season.

Just what you need when you will be cruising your favorite lake looking for the perfect spot or exploring the weeds and stumps of the backwaters when you get there. The aluminum alloy construction with powder coated finish protects against corrosion and reduces weight.

Stainless steel hinge pins are a perfect combination of strength, durability and dependability. Thanks to the Digital Power Management system this motor runs cooler allowing less energy loss to heat.
