We just had one day to explore the peninsula. The scenery is stunning. It is not as touristic developed as I expected. This is a good thing, although it was not easy to get a coffee on a Tuesday. Wild open area. About 90km south of Gisborne the Mahia Peninsula is a 20km detour off the main road heading to Fishiny. The colour of the ocean and stark beach fronts are spectacular.
