I bought the ones with the green light because the guy at Outdoor Junction in Lebanon said that these would not attract bugs. Well, if what they did is not attracting bugs even without the green light on , then I would hate to see what "attracting bugs" would be. My boat is white and the sides of it and inside it was almost brown from all the bugs. We finally had to just turn them off and quit fishing because there were so dang many bugs. I don't have moonlights Might try a thermacell in the boat.
Familyman brought one with him the last time we fished together and it seemed to work. Probably wouldn't work as well if the wind was blowing much at all. I've got the full moons with black LED's. The only thing that seems to help is keep the white light off. I use one when I night fish and it doesn't completely stop the bugs but it does keep enough away to make it bearable.
Ive used a lot of blacklights thru the years. Bugs are going to be a problem anytime you have an artificial light source on after dark.
The guy that told you green lights dont attract bugs either doesnt know better or plain lied to you. MoonLites are by far the best black lights Ive used ever. The bug problems are going to exist with any light It takes off all the bugs and scum line.
I owned a pair of those lights for about two fishing trips and I found a buyer and unloaded them and went back to using my Hoppy's Pro-Glows.
The front running light attracts more bugs than my Pro Glows do. I have several buddies that have all gone back to their Sloans or Pro Glows after using those lights a couple times ALL lights will attract bugs after dark.
There is no way around it. As Andy said just use a towel to wipe them off at the end of the night. There is nothing wrong with your Monlites they are the Best money can buy. Just sell the moonlites and get yourself a real light, Nucli-Eye Extreme. Back to the topic at hand, as stated above any light at night will draw in the bugs.
Good luck finding any light that won't attract them. LOL, well that is a thought, but heck I just bought them and have too much invested to just dump them.. I love my moonlights. I have a full moon and a half moon and they both work great.
As said before they will all attract bugs, but that's a price that ya have to pay to go out there after dark. I would however take it up with the salesman that sold them to ya and inform him that he is incorrect. Just found this site and signed up. The green LED seems to draw less insects than a white light.
Some nights the UV LED is all you need but on other nights it just seems darker so the green LED is helpful getting a little distance definition without the brightness of a white light. I personally don't like to put any white light on the bank I'm fishing at night wether it is on a fishing light or a flashlight or a spot light.
I really like the Moonlite brand because of the convenience of the size of the light and its durability. Plus you have the added bonus of so much less amp draw than the Stan Sloans or the Hoppys lights.
