THX JP. Hi Loon. I don't know the Gleenho, but I'll google it. I will be looking for a welded model. I've heard that guys in NW build good aluminum boats for the guys who use them for work boats.

Thx Loon, I did finally get it right. I am looking for a flat bottom Jon boat with a nice casting platform in bow. My use will be in the mangroves in very skinny water. I have seen some that have a tunnel hull design,so they run in in of water. Thx again JP. I think Jones Brothers makes a 17' Bateau that would work. But it's all glass so it's likely to be a tad heavier than a tin boat. I've seen some tin boats that seem to float with almost no water.

I'll have a pole for getting into some tuff spots. Don't know what your looking to spend but G-3 makes a boat like mine but it has a tunnel hull for a jet outboard, i don't think they are too spendy. If fact with the platic bottom option it doesn't even need water to run.

One thing though, they ain't any good in any amout of rough water. I would spend for the right boat. Most of the fishing this will do is in protected water and very shallow. I will google g-3's thx John P. I would look at a Carolina Skiff. Dollar for dollar, they're likely to are jon boats good for saltwater pdf cheaper than a jon, and they float nice and shallow, are quieter, do not corrode, no rivets, and you can get a bare hull and rig it however you like.

The beam was wider on the jon, but the floor width is better on my skiff. I have no hesitation at all with taking it into the ocean on nice days. Hi Samauri, Do you are jon boats good for saltwater pdf if Carolina skiffs come 16ft.

I need to get are jon boats good for saltwater pdf to fit in the garage in FL and I only have 20ft to work. THX Jp. Carolina's do come in 16 ft lengths My buddies riveted hull sunk brackish are jon boats good for saltwater pdf due to a bad rivet. Here's my Voyager Jon. I realize it's bigger than what you're looking for at 18' but they also offer it in a 16' with the same 85" beam. The width makes this a real stable platform, and helps reduce draft.

I've had it in about 8" of water. They have nice big foredecks and plenty of room on the aft deck to stand and pole I reinforced both fore and aft decks with alum. Its all welded, and mine has the modified V hull option, which helps smooth out the ride somewhat in a chop although its still a flatbottom, so if its real rough she'll bust yer kidneys.

She'll do abot mph at WOT with the 4 stroke 40, but due to the aft helm seating, 3 batteries and my copious behind, it was tough to get her on plane untill I added the hydrofoil.
