It was I chose the pm, 90 minute cruise. Timing was perfect. It was light out for the first half the dark the 2nd half.
Tour guides were great. Will go on this again. When you buy a ticket for the City Sightseeing Bus you also get the cruise included. The boat has 4 stops, 3 at Manhattan and one at the Brooklyn side, where you can take the Brooklyn tour with the bus. It is possible to sit inside and outside and the boat takes you all the way to the statue of Liberty. You also get a great view over the Manhattan skyline.
Be sure to look for the time when it departs and when the last tour is so you don't miss it. The tour is exactly as you would expect. The cruise was a little late departing which was annoying as it had been a long day, but everyone got a seat if they wanted it and it was a relaxing experience cruising the Hudson and beyond.
Special mention for the guide giving the commentary. Although not everyone was keen to listen, this older gent provided some real NYC insight into the cruise.
He had stories old and new and he had a very good general knowledge of New York overall. We did this cruise and all NYC tours I have reviewed as part of the Sightseeing Pass and that made it a very easy and economic decision to add on the cruise to our itinerary. After a day walking the streets, this cruise was a relaxing conclusion to the day. I recommend anyone visiting New York should get out on the water at least once, it is part of the programme as a tourist 8- The Twilight Tour was just fine for us and the up close view of Liberty was a top moment.
It was a pretty overcast day and there was some rain but the views of the Statue of Liberty were extraordinary. I didn't do the Hop on Hop Off aspect. I took the 90 minute boat ride. I sat on the left side and felt I had a better view. Boarding seemed to go smoothly I found the Wall Street stop took the longest for people to board.

He said, sorry, no-can-do. When the marginal cost of adding another person to a boat is zero, this would have been the easiest thing to satisfy us. The bottom line is, take this trip at your own risk if you expect it to be 90 minutes, and if there is a mishap, don't expect it to be fixed; expect to be told T-S! We enjoyed a cruise around the whole of Manhattan island.
We paid to upgrade to this full tour and it was a great way to see the whole islands coastline. We also had good views of the Statue of Liberty. I would advise getting to the pier early as our boat was rammed full, with all the outside seating gone. This wasn't a major problem to us as it was also baking hot and we didn't want to sit in the sun. Good tip was to ask the guide the best place to sit and we found if we had sat on the right of the boat our view would have been much poorer. The guides commentary was very good throughout.
I would say though that the 30 or so empty seats into the 'premium' section were a complete waste. They were in a prime viewing area and completely empty!
