Learn How to Build a Wooden Boat. What a great experience. The accommodations were spartan but comfortable. The meals were provided and all were very good. At the end of the week we had a lobster bake to cap off the week.

As good as all of that was the opportunity to learn the art of boat building from excellent teachers and other students was just downright awesome. Quaint, Friendly, Informative. We decided to visit the Wooden Boat school though we were not, nor ever will be, students and are so glad we did. The setting is rustic and beautiful. The gift shop had a nice array of wearablesand gifts as well as kits and plans to make model wooden boats. Those who have wooden boats will find some nice fixtures to add to their creations. We went near the end of the day, which allowed us the freedom to walk around through the workshop- classrooms, where students were still making small wooden projects, large fabric wrapped kayaks and a variety of smaller wooden boats.

We also happened to be there on Regatta weekend, the first weekend in August, with boats from all over feeding into the area. The night before, boat owners and friends gather on the school grounds for barbecue and entertainment. We missed the regatta because of a rainy morning and our early departure but it is destination-worthy in the future. The other students are doing something they like and everybody has a good time and is pleasant. Lodging is comfortable, different possible sites on campus have each have good beds, hot showers and coffee but varying levels of fanciness.
