By CaracarMarch 7, in Boat Talk. I guess painted would be in there. Probably biggest questions rakc. My trailer has only been used in fresh water and never seen road salt. Yet my chrome wheels are starting to rust and I clean the boat all the time, so the wheels are rarely dirty.
That being said. I love the look of chrome. Aluminum is a PITA to keep polished, and galvanized looks like poop. Mine are galvanized. No goat answer, but maybe stainless steel. Mine are painted steel just spray them with WD40 every so often to keep aluminum boat trailers vs galvanized rack shinny.

Not a problem when you learn how to load the boat. I will say one thing about Pacific Trailers. Lots of big talk and little customer support!!! No rust whatsoever on the hot dip galvanized frame. Would seriously consider getting a price from them. I have a triple axle aluminum trailer for my striper and have never had it float. Countless launches, stays on the ramp floor. I say go aluminum. Lighter, better fuel mileage towing and no rust. Look at a galvanized trailer that's ten years old. There is prob rust streaks.
I'm so happy with the results of the first trailer, for all the reason stated on previous post that I bought another aluminum trailer for my 23' Blackman 5yrs ago. Yes on the tri axile models you will get some trailer float especially on heavey surge conditions sooo you don't stick so much of the trailer in the water to start the loading process.
Then slowing back the trailer trailer deeper as the boat slowly powers or winches up the bunk boards. I have a triple axle aluminum and am happy with it.
It has galvanized cross members and axles so it isn't all aluminum. It bolts together so you can replace parts over time if they fail. That being said I think a welded hot-dipped steel trailer might be the strongest trailer you can get, but will also be heavier.
