Has anyone taken the boat from Naples to Key West lately? I am interested in what you think of the value, condition of the boat and the overall experience. My wife and I are considering this as a day trip in March, leave Naples in the morning and returning that same late afternoon. There are actually two different ferries, run by the same company, but one leaves from Ft.
Myers Beach and the other from Marco Island. I took the one from Ft. Myers Beach last October, and it made a great way to get to Key West without the drive. Pros- large, newer vessel, abundant food and drink available, big windows, nice crew. Price is not too bad, and you will pay less by booking ahead. Cons- Since I wasn't partying, I found the barrage of surrounding TVs with overhead speakers at every seat to be rather annoying.
The party started by 9am with a Parrothead-type singer and a group ya-yahing along at the bar. A good part of your 1-day round trip will be spent waiting to get on and off the boat, and you will need to be at the KW terminal early for the return trip to go thru security and more waiting.
