Ever since I bought my boat I have been buying this and buying that to get it set up how I wanted it. To save space I have been trying to consolidate my tackle and organize things to the best of my ability.

Lately I have been looking at lure holders for jigs and the like and they seem to want too much for them in my opinion. I made a couple sketches and went to home depot to get some supplies. I got home and it was already getting a little bit dark but I decided I could maybe get one done. I laid my metal out and marked all my cuts and holes. Got busy working and in about 20 min I had made a simple yet effective lure holder.

Not the fanciest thing in the world for sure but I figure I can make about 6 or 7 more this size. The one thing I might have done different was just used the silver aluminum instead of the black because the black scratches pretty easy. I am sure most of you guys have done similar but I figured I would share just in case someone was thinking of doing something like this.

My thought is that going a few miles with even a modest chop in the water and all those jigs are going to end up on the bottom of the bin. Without changing your set up any I'd get some of that brush on or spray on rubber stuff and cover up the holes.

Once that has dried, you can replace the jigs and I think that the rubber edges will hold the jigs in place better. Every so often once a year, maybe, more or less you'll have to touch it up. Just my thought. I have a buddy who bought the commercial version of what you rigged and on Lake of the Ozark, where the water is frequently choppy and the chop can come from any direction, more than a few times he opened up his lids to find a bunch of baits laying on the bottom of the bin.

He still finds baits on the bottom of the bins, but not nearly as often as previously, and generally on the slots where the rubber has worn thin.

Time will tell. I'm going to try it out this weekend. I am not going to make any more till I see how this works. I had a hard time deciding on hole size for the reason you mentioned. I have smaller bits that I could use if needed.

We will see how it works and go from there. I like to tinker anyway so no big deal if it doesn't work. Something that would fix them from bouncing out of the holes is a strip of elastic band stretched across the top and affixed to each end of the rack. You would have to lift the band to put the lure in the rack but it would hold them in there. If you have problems with them falling off, find some Problem solved.

Harbor Freight also sells magnetic strips for tool holders that work well for holding baits. I have a couple mounted in my johnboat that I hang pliers and baits from. Harbor freight also frequently has a flier to get one of these free with a purchase of something else. Those harbor frt.

I have 2 mounted on my console. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account. Paste as plain text instead. Only 75 emoji are allowed. Display as a link instead. Clear editor. Upload or insert images from URL. Write for BassResource!
