NRevell Top Contributor: Architecture. Verified Purchase. A pretty well detailed model, the larger scale makes dealing with the smaller parts a bit easier than on smaller scale subs. The most difficulty for me was in building the AA guns. My XXL size fingers and sixty year old eyes are challenged, but a forty year modeling experience helps.
The several small parts in the Turm U-boat term for the sail are tight. Good sprue cutters and pointed tweezers are a must. The several fragile railings take some care too. Maybe a set of PE brass might be better here? But that would really jump the price up. Another area needing care is the stern planes and rudders. It gets tight here too. The rudders are intended to move, but I glued them, as the support struts are too flimsy, and the rudders German U-boat Model Kits 90 would get lost. The 37mm gun is intended to move in elevation, again I glued it.
The schnorkel is pivoted and moves, as do the periscopes. Take care in glueing their housings though! Many parts have some flash or mold lines, so a sharp model knife is needed for trimming. Painting this large a sub model will take some time, needing a lot of brushwork in the tight areas. All variants have the same primary scheme, with different decals. This kit builds into an impressive model of the final operational version of the Type VII boat.

One of the propellers was damaged, it looks like it didn't set correctly when it was I'm assuming injected, so it broke a piece off. Nothing a modeller with a little basic knowledge and glue couldn't fix, but maybe a challenge or even a let down for casual builders. Regardless of the little set back, this is going to be a fun build. The worded directions are in multiple languages, and the visual directions are highly detailed.
