It is reported that the literacy rate is more than 60 per cent in Bangladesh. Many children don't go to school because the are put to work and thereby contributing to the family income. The government has allowed this community to start a preparatory school.

During the day it is garbage collection and sorting center while in the evening it becomes a school and later in the night it is turned into a dormitory. Jotun staff spent a day cleaning the place and painting the class room.

The children were very eager to help and a paint competition was carried out. Later the same day Jotun staff gave a demonstration of basic hygiene. At the end of the day the Jotun staff took all the children to a fun park and arranged a lunch for everybody. In addition to coaching and organised practice, Karanba offers participants basic education, social assistance and vocational training.

To help participants during this difficult time, Jotun made a financial contribution to Karanba to enable them distribute food baskets to families in need.

Some of our employees usually play soccer in this place and, with Christmas holidays coming close, their hearts were touched when experiencing the poor conditions that those people live in.

In Brazil donation campaigns are common at this time of the year, so our employees asked if we could do something like that in our facilities. The idea was immediately embraced by all our employees, who ended up asking us to extend the deadline to bring more toys. The campaign exceeded our expectations and we could bring a little joy to that community. As a young man growing up in the suburbs of Oslo, Tommy Nilsen always dreamed of becoming a professional footballer. By 17 he turned pro, but at age 25 his career was cut short by a devastating knee injury.

During a visit to Rio de Janeiro in , he was deeply moved by the poverty he saw. However, some parents felt we were filling their children with lunch and later, added educational programmes. So we established the Penguin blood club. We give blood once per quarter at Kuntha bopha IV which is a hospital that focuses on treating Cambodian children of low-income families. Up to young Cambodian teacher students eat, sleep and study there for two years. The residential building was decaying day by day. Major structural repairs were required urgently to make it safe. Set in a remote location near the foot of Kirirom Mountain, the Give a Hand for Hope school is the only source of formal education in the commune and has to be supported by volunteers and donations.
